Loose crown has to result in extraction??

I had a root canal and crown on a lower left molar. In less than a year the crown became loose. I made an appointment to see the dentists who did all the work and they said they couldn't do anything but pull the tooth. Is there a reason why they couldn't just replace the crown with another?

Thanks,
Stella

There can be some reasons due to which dentist have to extract your tooth instead of replacing the crown. May be the root is cracked due to which crown became loose in less than a year.

Ask him. Crowns seldom get "loose", they just fall out. My guess is the tooth is loose, not the crown. Why is the tooth loose? Don't know. Perhaps a root fracture, perhaps periodontal disease.

Proper questions to ask is, why is this failing less than a year? Reinfection? If the tooth was already loose due to root fx or periodontal disease, root canal and crown should not have been the best option since doomed for failure anyways. If they don't give you a straight answer, seek a second opinion and options to correct. Find a trustworthy dentist who will give you an honest opinion.
