My ear and jaw hurt so bad! I am taking pain meds for my back, but the pain is much worse in my ear! I can't sleep unless I drug myself with over the counter sleeping pills and that doesn't work unless I take at least one and 1/2 of my pain meds. My GP doesn't want me taking the pain meds, but I don't see a choice! I put up with it all 24/7. I am tired of it. ENT says TMJ.. oral surgeon said its not TMJ.. so???????

Do I need a second opinion for TMJ? This is debilitating and I am going crazy! My jaw seemed to snap or move in the wrong way and it brought me to my knees in pain. something is so wrong!

What is the origin of the back pain? Is it muscular? Sometimes back pain triggers TMJ pain.

General MDs don't know anything about TMJ. You might seek an opinion from a dentist. He could also use anesthetic injections in various places, including your jaw muscles. If the dentist is baffled, he can refer you to a physical therapist, which is what I often do. They are the experts in muscle spasm.

But of course it may be tooth pain and not muscle pain. Diagnoses like these can take a lot of work and be very tricky.

no my back pain is due to a herniated disk surgery years ago. I have lost the disk between the spine, so its bone on bone and now there is a lot of pressure to stand or walk very long. I also have some sort of sore in the back of my throat. I can't stick my tongue out or open my mouth wide. But my biggest complaint is the pain i have in my ear! It's very disturbing! Very very hard to get to sleep with the pain!
