jaw and teeth pain after digital x- rays

User Level:
Patient
Posted by: middleton  (4 years ago)
Hello,
on march 12th,2015 I had 4 bitewings taken using digital x-rays. A sensor( and aiming ring was used)and put into my right side. Initially, it drooped out of my mouth, it was too heavy for me! It was put back in , i bit down hard to balance it, and x- rays were taken. sINCE THEN,
I am in extreme pain, my jaw hurts, and my teeth hurt when i bite or chew, OR just to close my mouth or ( even when i chew oN the left side , the right side hurts.
WHY IS THIS HAPPENING ?DID THE HYGENIST HIT A NERVE?
iAM A VERY SENSITIVE PATIENT, BUT THIS IS VERY STRANGE. CALLED THE DENTIST JUST TOLD ME TO TAKE PAIN PILLS OVER THE PHONE. REALISTICALLY, WHAT CAN THEY DO FOR ME? HOW LONG MUST I SUFFER? IAM ALWAYS A SLOW HEALER,
MANY THANKS

This is one reason I am hesitant to adopt intraoral x-ray sensors. They are hard and uncomfortable.

It sounds like muscle spasm may have been triggered by biting on the sensor aiming device. Have your dentist check the masseter and temporalis muscles of that side. If in spasm, give muscle relaxants and home care like moist heat and massage. If that does not work, he can refer you to a physical therapist.
