Is a root canal necessary for a broken front tooth?

Hi guys!

I broke one of my front teeth from a minor accident yesterday. The dentist said, I will have to undergo root canal and a crown. Since my lips are still swollen due to the accident, she asked me to return in three days. Do I necessarily have to undergo root canal? I am thinking maybe, the broken tooth can be bonded instead. What is the best option for me? Please advise me!

Hi mytooth!

It depends on which area of the tooth was damaged. If the pulp is exposed, a root canal is likely necessary, if it's not then, it can be reconstructed by caps, veneers or bond. Your
dentist will know better. Good luck!

Hello there!

The treatment depends on the severity of the crack. If the crack is small and it was caught early, only restoration that holds the tooth together will be needed. If the pulp is injured or exposed, a root canal is likely needed to be followed by a crown to hold the tooth together. If it is a split tooth and damaged severely, the tooth may be extracted.

Hello,

How much of the tooth is broken? If the tooth is broken down to the gumline and a nerve was damaged, a root canal is needed.

Thank you guys for your prompt response. I broke almost 1/3 of my tooth. I will request an xray to see the extent of the damage myself.
