Infection in a molar near the sinus

Dear Doctor,

My daughter who is 15 years old has an infection in her top right first molar close to the sinus. There is pus from the area that causes a foul smell. I was told that a surgery should be done by cutting into the face underneath her eye. How common is this procedure? Why can’t the surgery be done through her mouth? Please help!! Any information would be highly appreciated.

Why did you let your daughter's dental health deteriorate so badly that she has a life-threatening infection?

It is uncommon to incise the face to obtain drainage, but sometimes it has to be done. People sometimes die from infections like this. If you don't act fast, she will be hospitalized.
