Infection from a cracked tooth?

Patient

For the past month, tooth #19 had been sensitive to pressure and anything hot and cold. I have it checked by the dentist two weeks ago. He said nothing showed on the x-ray, but the tooth might be cracked. He wanted to try to save this tooth so he sent me to a root canal specialist.

I had the root canal done last week. The procedure was very painful because he can't get the tooth to be completely numbed.

A few days after the root canal, I was still in pain. I went back to my regular dentist because the pain became unbearable. He said the tooth is indeed cracked and sent me to an oral surgeon to have it pulled.

I got much pain during the extraction. The surgeon gave me more pain med injection but the pain still came through during the procedure. That was three days ago and I am still in great deal of pain. It feels like the pain is coming from the bone under the gum in the extraction site. Does it sound like I have an infection that reached the bone? Please help. I am so worried.

Wow, how sad you went through all of this and still lost the tooth!

Probably you have a "dry socket," where the blood clot has dried and washed out. The oral surgeon should be able to treat this easily.
