Infection for four months

Hello all,

I had a root canal and a crown on my first molar on the upper left side four months ago. Since then, I would get a pain whenever I bit down on it. Every time I go to the dentist to complain about the pain, she would always tell me to give time for the tooth to recover from the work. Two weeks ago, my left face swelled up. I also developed an abscess above the root canal treated tooth. I took antibiotics for one week. When I stopped, the pain came back. The abscess is still there. Please help! I was wondering if the infection has always been there for the past four months. I will be going to another dentist next week because my current dentist does not seem to care about how I feel but I would love to hear your opinions and suggestions about what I am going through. Thanks a lot.

One of the canals on the molar is either fractured or failing. Usually it is one of the canals closest to the cheek. Your dentist can diagnose which canal is failing and either retreat it, or do apical surgery. (Amputate part of that root, remove the cyst, and possibly graft the area with bone.)
