I am a recovering heroin addict but also a heavy smoker i was warned to stop smoking a few years ago and paid no attention and now i'm paying the price! I've had some dental treatment last year which included a few extractions and a denture to fit into my front upper right tooth but to be honest the rest of my teeth and gums aren't in the best of health, ( receding) although i do try my hardest now and have spent most of my life with good dental hi gene the 6 years i was using and did neglect my routine have taken their toll. My question is can anything be done with my existing teeth ie bridgework or veneers i understand that this will have to be paid for but before i even make an appointment i want to know if my teeth are able to be saved my main worry is i struggle with my denture now and leave it out as often as possible only wearing it in public to avoid embarrassment the thought of having to wear it for the rest of my life is horrendous and the rest of my teeth look awful, Can anyone advise me? as i want to remain anonymous if someone can get in touch i will send a picture of my teeth directly to you

Patients seldom realize it, but the hardest thing is coming up with a workable treatment plan. Executing the treatment plan is the easy part.

There is no way to plan your treatment without an exam, x-rays, study models, and possibly digital photos. Such treatment could include implants, and depending on the damage, possibly bridges also.

Like it or not, you must find a competent dentist you can trust and go through the diagnosis. Dentists to avoid are those on insurance lists and those with large advertisements in various media.

Thank you very much for your swift response i'm already in complete agreement with you when you mention the importance of a good dentist i'm afraid my last nearly put me off treatment for good i was given an appointment after being on the NHS waiting list and didn't believe dentists like the one i was given existed in this country and this day and age I wont bore you with the details! i completely understand you cant possibly give me a course of treatment without an examination however you have set me in good stead so my thanks again for your advice, Wish me Luck Rachaelx
