This is a laser teeth whitening treatment done in our dental office. Treatment includes cleaning prior to whitening.

Thank you for your numerous inaccurate posts.

The laser does not do a thing to whiten teeth. It is a marketing gimmick. It is the chemical that does the trick.

That is just your opinion. All dental offices use a light source to perform in office teeth whitening treatment.

I don't know from part of the world you are from but, that is what we use in North America.

Dear "Dental Hygienist ..."

We should not post our oppinions, or what is used (normal) in a part of the world. This are not good arguments - why?

There was a time, when it was "normal" to kill people because of their skin color. Only because "it was normal" - it is not right - or?

We should post what is evidence based ... to date, better bleaching results by exposing teeth to a halogen lamp and/or a laser have not been scientifically proved. Instead, the teeth reportedly dry out more with these devices.

We all know, that a dried tooth looks brighter at first, the effect lasts for no more than 1–2 days. Another disadvantage of these lamps is that the teeth could be damaged because of this drying. Often a root canal treatment is nessecary, even after many years. Therefore, lamps or lasers should not be used.

1- This is a forum, if we do not express opinions "from our side of the world" we live in, what is the purpose of an online forum?
2- I didn't give any arguments in my post. I mentioned the fact that dental offices in North America use LED or halogen lights for chair side whitening treatments. This is not an insult to dentists in other countries
but a fact.
3- "We should post what is evidence based" There are so many treatments performed in dentistry which are not evidence based, according to you we should not talk about them?
4- Whether the light works or not, this is a controversial topic. As such is subject to discussion. You think here is no scientific evidence to show that the light works. I perform 70 chair side treatments per month and based on my experience it does make a difference. So far no clients have called 2 days latter to complain about the results. Until there are detailed conclusions on dehydration effects dentists will use them if they get better results.

In-office whitening treatments are a waste of patient money. A lot of the initial result is via tooth dessication, which reverts to normal fairly rapidly. There is no difference in outcome between in-office bleaching and tray bleaching at home. You can reference several articles about it in the Journal of Operative Dentistry. Not only do they not do anything, but lights of various sorts can overheat the teeth and cause pulp damage.
