How do you get cavity underneath fillings?

Good day!

I've had two fillings eight years ago. Recently, I noticed that they are staining/discoloring. When I
went to the dentist, he did some X-rays and he found some cavities underneath the fillings. He said I need to get them replaced. One tooth may need a root canal and a crown on because the decay is quite deep.

How do you get decay under the fillings? What can I do to prevent this from happening again with the new filling that I will be getting soon?

Please help! Thanks a lot!

Good day to you Mormon!

Fillings can leak around the edges which can cause decay. It could also be due to an initial decay that was left behind from before. Good oral hygiene is the best way to prevent this from happening again.

Hello,

Fillings break down over time allowing decay. The best way to prevent this is by brushing, flossing and rinsing with mouthwash regularly. Visit your dentist or dental hygienist twice a year or as recommended by him/her. Thru regular dental check-up, any problem will be detected and treated before they get worse. I hope I helped!
