Hole in between my front teeth

Dear Doctor!

I got two crowns for my front teeth a few years ago. Over the past few months, I noticed a small hole developing between my two front teeth. The other day, while I was flossing, a very small part of one of the teeth chipped off. Now, it's making me paranoid. It looks awful when I smile or even just talk. What's causing the hole? How can this be fixed? I do not want to lose these teeth especially that they are my front teeth.

Thank you for your help!

Hello nomorenerve!

Your issue could be due to a number of reasons; a defective part of the dental crown, caries, a root fragment or even old cement residue.

Instead of worrying about it I would find a dentist to have a look over it. Make sure your dentist verifies that the crowns are watertight; leaky crowns and fillings can lead to gum recession and caries!

All the best!

Thank you for your advice! I will ask the dentist about that.
