Gum surgery

Dear Doctor,

Unfortunately, I inherited my mom's poor gum condition. My gums are really swollen all the time, even when I floss twice a day, and like in her case I feel that gum surgery is inevitable. Trying to support myself in college is hard enough already, so I would like to know the maximum cost of gum surgery?
Thank you!

Dear johnjohnsonmuneco!

I don’t think you inherited the condition, most likely you are suffering from an inflammation of the gums – this can be treated!

Ideally you should visist a periodontist – s/he will be able to help you further.

Additionally you might want to invest in an oral water jet; and watch the video on here entitled “Gingivitis”.

All the best!

Gingivitis is not hereditary. You get gum disease if you do not take good care of your teeth. This can be treated with the help of a professional.
