Gum Inflammation

Hello,

I am getting a strong dull ache in one of my molars for over a week now. I went to the dentist today. He took x-rays and conducted some tests on the tooth. He said the tooth is fine but the gum around the tooth is inflamed and this might have caused the pain. He referred me to a periodontist. Have you had a toothache caused by gum inflammation? If so, what did you do with it? Please advise me! I would be thankful for any help.

It is possible, but not common, to have pain from gum disease. The usual cause is a periodontal abscess. The usual treatment is numbing a patient and cleaning out the gum pocket where the infection is.
