Gum graft surgery, what to expect?

Hi!

I have a severe gum recession. Some of my tooth roots were already exposed. My periodontist scheduled me for a gum graft surgery next week and I am so terrified!!! I've encountered horror stories of surgeries gone terribly wrong on the internet. Has anyone had gum grafting before? What should I expect? How long does it take to heal? I would love to hear some tips from someone who experienced gum grafting. Please reply. Thank you in advance.

Hello!

Healing period depends on how much tissue was taken from the roof of the mouth. It usually takes 4-8 weeks for a soft tissue to heal and return to normal. The donor site will become thicker two weeks after the surgery and it takes 6 to 8 weeks after the surgery for the depression in the tissue to fill up completely.
