Getting braces off mid treatment

User Level:

So, I have had braces for about 1 1/2 years now. I should be getting them off in six months but due to lack of finances, I was not able to visit my orthodontist for several months. I can see that my teeth are already straight. Can I ask my orthodontist to remove my braces now and give me retainers? They have not been taken care of for a long time and I do not want to keep them in my mouth any longer. I look forward for your help.

Thank you so much!

Hi Alonababe:-)

You should finish the treatment before getting retainers. Your teeth are not conditioned enough yet to stay where they should be. Talk to your orthodontist about your situation. He may be able to help you with a more affordable payment plan.

Alonababe, premature removal will result in the shifting of your teeth. Teeth have a tendency to move back to where the were and at the end you may end up losing you 1 1/2 time and financial investment.
