I am getting my braces off very soon and I have a problem. My gum is very swollen around one of my bands at the back. It really looked bad, my gum is basically covering it. Does it hurt when they take my braces off? I've heard they will rip my gum open and I will need stitches. Anyone who had experienced this? Thank you for your time in answering my question:-)

I experienced the same thing and it did not hurt at all to come off. There might be a little tear but it will not rip the
gum. Don't worry about it:-)

No, it will not rip the gum. Mine did not hurt when my braces were taken off. It only hurt a little when they polished my
teeth but the result was really very good.:-)

Dear keana!
Unfortunately, wearing braces increases the risk of gum inflammations, due to factors like plaque build-up around the braces and bands.
It is very important to thoroughly remove the plaque, even if your gums do bleed excessively. The bleeding will subside over time, so keep up the solid dental hygiene, and don’t be worried by the bleeding!
