Fissure sealant

Greetings!

I am scheduled for a clean and fissure sealant. Yesterday, I discovered a hole on one of my molars. My tongue can fit into it. Will a sealant be used to fix it? If not, what other options do I have? Thanks for your reply.

Hi there!

Fissure sealant is a material used to cover the grooves of the teeth to reduce the chance of tooth decay on top of the teeth. Sealant will not be effective if there is a hole or decay. This can be treated with dental fillings.

Hello,

Pit and fissure sealant is not a filling so it won't work on a tooth with a hole. It is a thin resin flowed over the grooves to prevent future decay.
