Filled molar hurts

Hi all! About a month ago, I had a large cavity filled on a second molar on the top right side. The dentist drilled it and put a cap on. He said he drilled away a lot of it. Everything went fine with it, no sensitivity and no pain at all.

Five days ago, I had all of my four wisdom teeth removed. The filled molar started to ache then. The pain was extreme. I cannot eat and sleep well. What could possibly have happened to the tooth during the wisdom tooth extraction that is causing this pain now? Any ideas? Thanks.

Check to make sure it is not a dry socket from the wisdom tooth first. That would be the logical explanation. If it isn't, the nerve of the crowned tooth could be flaring up. It might be coincidental. If the cavity was deep and a crown was prepared, it is not that unusual for a tooth nerve to flare up.

Hi Dr. Henry!

I've been to the dentist today and he confirmed that I have dry socket in the top right extraction site. He packed it with medicated gauze and instructed me to go back to him every other day to change packing. Thanks for your help!
