Roughly a month ago I had all of my remaining top teeth extracted a few of the molars required surgical extraction and one required packing and a flap to cover the large hole. After 5 days I was experiencing severe pain my jaw on the same side an X-ray revealed a small fracture in the jaw. The pain subsides and I believed the sinus pressure I was experiencing were from an extreme allergy season after several weeks I took a Pseudoephedrine product which triggered an almost constant flow of green foul smelling drainage and blood from only the nostril on the side of the fracture. I'm given Levaquin by my PCP and follow up with my dentist at the urging of my doctor, the dentist says seems like a basic sinus infection don't worry and move on. 7 days of antibiotics and the drainage is slowing but the severe pain in my jaw and ear haven't gotten better. Is there anyway the extraction are to blame or just a coincidence they happened at the same time

I have never heard of a maxilla being fractured during tooth extraction, but I guess it is a possibility. Fractures are more likely to happen on the lower jaw. More likely that an undetected sinus perforation developed during extraction, which resulted in the sinus infection. But equally likely is infection from allergies. Probably a result of both.

Many bacteria are antibiotic resistant and it is getting harder to eradicate infections these days.

Now you know why we dentists try to get patients to save their teeth. Full arch extractions is very rough surgery.

They were beyond saving thus far the implants have made a huge difference in my pain from poor teeth but this is just a huge pain in the butt. I saw an ENT today who thinks its a possibility the extractions or an improper post placement is to blame, however he would like to wait to see results of X-rays and other imagining before having any further opinion. He also said its just as likely I could have had an under treated sinus infection that's been brewing.
