Effects of braces to the hairline cracks in my teeth

User Level:

I’m a teeth grinder and have hairline cracks in most of my teeth. I have a large gap between my two front teeth, which I want to fix. I wanted to get braces on but I was worrying about the pressure it will put on my teeth. The hairline cracks might open and would cause more problems to arise in the future. Any suggestions? Please let me know of the best procedure to be done to fix the gap between my teeth. I would highly appreciate any help!

In 24 years of doing orthodontics, I have not seen this happen. Brackets do not open cracks in teeth. In fact, they reinforce them. I advise orthodontics wherever possible to close tooth gaps, instead of veneers or bonding.
