I'm confused about if I should get regular braces are go with Invisalign ?

I read all 5 of these articles and I think I'm confused even more....

http://www.invisalign.com/frequently-asked-questions

http://www.eckleyorthodontics.com/invisalign-faqs.html

http://www.dentistryiq.com/articles/2013/11/are-braces-better-than-invisalign.html

http://www.dentistryformadison.com/blog/2014/09/13/the-8-differences-between-invisalign-149200

I guess I just have 2 main questions:

1. Is Invisalign cheaper than braces?
2. Which one will I have to have the shortest amount of time?

Thanks in advance!

P.S. - I just turned 21 and I still have dental insurance thru my parents.

I have done comprehensive orthodontics for 27 years.

1. Invisilign is NOT cheaper than brackets and wires. Some clear aligner systems are cheaper, but not Invisilign. It is a very pricey treatment modality.
2. Neither method offers time-in-treatment advantages.

You MUST remember: only a LIMITED number of cases can be treated with clear aligners- because aligners cannot accomplish some movements, like intrusion of teeth. Which cases are best for clear aligners? Minor crowding case not requiring extraction. How do you know if your is an aligner case? You cannot know. You have to visit a dentist experienced in moving teeth.

Beware of young dentists who do not analyze cases completely, and do not know how to do bracketed cases. To them, everything is an Invisalign case.

Please ignore all the manufacturer's propaganda you read on their websites. If all they have to sell are hammers, they try to make everything seem like a nail. You might look up "invisalign" on the website www.PissedConsumer.com

Clear aligner therapy can be excellent or it can be totally ineffective, depending on the case. Also don't forget that wearing clear trays that hurt 24 hours a day is not fun.
