Do I need a root canal treatment again?

Dear Doctor,

I visited my dentist to have the cavity in one of my molars refilled two years ago. She then told me that I need a root canal treatment because she saw a damaged nerve on the tooth. I went on with the procedure. After the treatment, I did not have any problem until lately, I noticed a foul odor from the treated tooth when I floss. I looked closely at it in the mirror and I noticed that my gum is a little bit swollen. I think the tooth was infected. Do I need a root canal treatment again? Do you have any other suggestions on the best way to treat this? I am hoping that I can still save this tooth.

Thank you for all your suggestions!

Dear imluisa!

It could be an infection of the root tip – an abscess.

Ideally you should visit an endodontic specialist and have it looked at!

GOOD AFTERNOON.

IF THE GUM IS INFECTED YOU MUST SEEK DENTAL ATTENTION PROMPTLY. THE DENTIST WILL BE ABLE TO FIND OUT IF THERE IS AN ABSCESS, AND IF IT COMES FROM THE ROOTS OR ROOT OF THE ROOT THAT WAS PREVIOUSLY TREATED. IF THAT IS THE CASE AND THE ROOT CANAL FAILURE, THE ROOT CANAL CAN BE DONE AGAIN. BUT IF THERE IS A LOT OF BONE LOST SURROUNDING THE ROOT, AND/OR THE ROOT REABSORBED, OR IF YOUR OVERALL HEALTH IS COMPROMISE, THEN, THE PROGNOSTIC IS NOT SO GOOD AND MOST LIKELY THE TOOTH HAS TO EXTRACTED. AGAIN, WITHOUT AN Rx. AND THE CLINICAL EXAM, IT'S VERY HARD TO DETERMINATE THE EXACTLY TREATMENT PLAN. BUT, IN GENERAL, DEPENDING OF THE CIRCUMSTANCES, YES, THE ROOT CANAL CAN BE RE-DONE.

LIGHT AND PEACE FOR 2013

Could be wrong but it sounds more like a gum infection. Please visit a competent dentist to find out.
