Did anyone have an apicoectomy?

Hi all!

Three years ago, I had a root canal done on tooth number 16. After a year, the dentist saw an infection on the root of the tooth and he performed another root canal. After a couple of days, the tooth is still very inflamed and sore. The dentist saw in the X-ray that there is still a small infection. The dentist referred me to a specialist to get an apicoectomy.

Has anyone had one and did it work? I do not know much about the procedure. Please help.

Hi there!

Apicoectomy is done to remove the root tip and the surrounding infected tissue of an abscessed tooth after two root canal treatments that are unsuccessful. I had an apico a few years back and it really went well. I only had a minimal pain and swelling after the surgery.

I've had an apicoectomy on one of my top front teeth about a year ago. You won't feel any pain during the procedure because you're gonna be numbed. After the procedure, you can apply ice to minimize the pain. You will only be sore for two to three days.
