1: Who are the most competitive and at the same time; the quality-conscious & reliable manufacturers of dental implants?

2: Can a patient request his dentist to use a brand of implant of his/her preference OR is it up to the dentist to recommend an implant of his/her choice?

It is not practical for a dentist to inventory every brand of implant on the market. They take different surgical drills and different parts. Inventory is a huge problem for those of us who place implants. Most surgeons stock ony 1-3 kits for different brands.

The old-line market leaders are Nobel-Biocare, Astra and 3I. Strauman and Zimmer have well-accepted systems. There is a Hi-Ossen system coming in from Korea. There are knock-off versions of the big companies. Personally, I really don't want to take the chance on knock-off implants. Metallurgy is just too important. Screw design and quality is critical. A broken screw in an implant often cannot be remedied.

The problem with using lesser brands is the company may go out of business, making it impossible to get parts for the implant should the need arise.

Surgical protocol and bone quality is much more important than the brand of implant. The differences between the major brands relate mostly to ease of use and familiarity of dentists to the system.
