Dead tooth

Hi all,

One of my front teeth is now noticeably gray in color. My dentist said, this tooth is already dead and I need a root canal. Can I just have it whitened? It is not painful and it is not giving me any problem aside from the color. Do I really need to go through root canal and a crown?

Thank you in advance for your advice.

Hi Bluewater,

You should go with the root canal and a crown to save the tooth. It cannot be saved by simply whitening it.

If the dental nerve “dies”, for example due to a knock on your tooth, or a filling is inserted too deep, it can lead to a discoloration of the tooth.

A root canal is the recommended treatment; eventually you can undergo an internal bleaching as well.
