Dark gray area after a wisdom teeth extraction

Dear Checkdent,

I got all my four wisdom teeth pulled about a week ago. I had to go back to the clinic because I was bleeding a lot at the bottom left part. The rest were fine. I ended up getting more stitches. The dentist told me he put dissolvable gauze inside of it to help make the clot. After two days, when I looked inside my mouth, I noticed that the stitched area looks dark grayish. I am not sure if it's the gauze. Is this something I should be worried about? It does not hurt, I only have this nasty taste inside my mouth. Can anybody help me, please?

Thank you for your answers!

Hi silverspoon,

It sounds like a blood clot in the socket. Do not remove it. If you are not experiencing any pain then you do not have a dry socket. Rinse with salt water. As for the bad taste in your mouth, you can have it checked by your oral surgeon. I hope this helps a little!

Hello silverspoon!

A scab in the mouth can look rather unpleasant, however try not to look at it too often and stress the general area as that could lead to infections.

By the sound of it, everything seems to be normal, nevertheless, you visit your dentist for a check up, just to make sure!
