cyst in gums from root canal is haunting me

Hello,

So about 15 years ago I had a root canal done. Everything went fine and I didn't experience any pain or problems from it. Fast forward to last summer, I needed to have a crown lengthening done on another tooth, (I come from a family w/a long history of terrible teeth), and when my new dentist took an x-ray, she noticed that there was a cyst inside my gums right above the old root canal tooth. She asked if I had any pain from it and when I said no, she said that we would just have to keep an eye on it since it's close to my nasal passage and we'll deal w/ it if there were any problems to come. I often clench my teeth when sleeping - and Ive been stressed lately so I've really been clenching - and the other day I woke up in more discomfort than usual. When I looked at my gum, I noticed that there was a small cyst on the outside, right where I think the cyst is on the inside of my gums, right above the root canal tooth from 15 years ago.

My question is this: Could the cyst, (or what appears to be a cyst), be from me clenching my teeth, or is it the internal cyst starting to come out? Are there any home remedies for this? Or am I totally screwed? Im worried b/c I do not want to have to go through another oral surgery again like the crown lengthening - it was painful and expensive!

It has nothing to do with clenching your teeth.

The root canal is failing for some reason. You can have it redone, or have the end of the root cut off and sealed- a procedure called an apicoectomy and retrofill. If the latter is the best choice, it might be useful to graft the area where the cyst was with freeze-dried bone.
