Cuts by braces

It has been a month since I had my braces on and the cuts inside my cheek will not go away. The wax they gave me is not helping much. I’ve been using a mouthwash for braces but it does not help much either. Does anyone have any recommendations for the cuts in my cheeks? They hurt when I eat. Thanks in advance.

Hello. If the the wax the orthodontist gave you to cover the brackets do not work you should go back to the orthodontist and ask for additional protective measures to prevent lacerations in your mouth. He/she can make the sharp wire edges smoother or perhaps relocate the brackets to prevent the lacerations which if constantly repeated may leave scarring. In the oral cavity scarring appears as white lines. Your oral mucosa will eventually learn to accommodate the braces in your mouth.

Also, you can try 'Canker Cover'. It is this little patch that covers any lacerations.

I think the mouth wash wont help. It could affect the cuts more if the cuts are deep. You need to consult your dentist and he will give you some tablets to take which will help you recover from the cuts. The mouth takes some time to get used to the braces. Sometimes if the recovery of the cuts take longer than normal then medication is required.

This is the most common problem after the application of braces. But, in your case it is a month period and your cuts are not recovered yet. You should have to consult your dentist for the proper settlement of your braces. take the proper treatment as well.
