Help. I had 6 crowns done at the front nearly 20 years ago. Due to some gum disease they are now starting to protrude and there is a gap between my front teeth (not previously there). It is affecting my speech and I am a teacher. I spoke of my concerns to the dentist but said if they were replaced they would have to be larger and wouldn't look right. Please help as I am extremely upset and don't know what to do. Don't want to look a laughing stock but want them sorted as soon as possible as I daren't even smile. Thank you.

Have you considered getting dental implants instead, which can be attached to a fixed bridge? I read on thisisdentistry.co.uk that dental implants are very effective missing teeth solutions; with the proper treatment plan and modern technology/materials, the teeth restorations can be made to look exactly like natural teeth. You may want to get a second opinion from a cosmetic dentistry specialist who can give you the natural-looking smile that you want. Good luck! :)

You will need to discuss this with a periodontist. Seems like you have serious periodontal problems. There are solutions depending on severity of your bone loss.
Some treatments that most likely will be recommended are:
Removal of the existing crowns and Root planning (deep cleaning)
Bone graft
Alloderm grafting (gingival graft)
New crowns

Implants may be considered with bone grafting.

You have to post pictures and xrays if you want dental professionals to give you a more accurate opinion.

Good luck

Your dentist is right. The teeth have moved. Now your only option is to move them back in with some sort of orthodontic force, then keep them there by semi-permanent retention. All the while, conquering the gum disease which caused your problem.

looking at the age and time, it is suggested to get an implant but should can the case clinically visualized by a prosthodontist. As placing implants prior requires some medical testing....for more info on implants follow the link...http://www.identalhub.com/articlecategory-dental-implants-25.aspx
