Crowing a decayed tooth

Hello!

Three days ago, my front top tooth broke and there was only a bit of it what was left. It left a big gap in my mouth that looks awful. The very top of this tooth was decayed and this maybe the reason why it broke off. I was wondering if a crown could be placed on a decayed tooth. I have a dental appointment in two days and I am really hoping that this can be fixed with crown and they will not require a root canal. The tooth isn’t all that bad; it does not look rotten. I’ve heard that implants were great but they were expensive and time consuming. Thanks in advance for any information.

If the pulp is not infected, the tooth can be built up, then a crown done.

If the pulp is infected, the tooth will require a root canal, then a post or buildup, then a crown.
