Cracked tooth after a filling?

Hi,
I got two fillings for teeth #28 and #29 about a week ago. Today, I went in to see a new dentist for cleaning. I told her that the filled tooth were sensitive. She referred asked me to see a specialist because she thought one of the filled teeth was cracked. I was just wondering if a root could be cracked during filling procedure. None of the teeth gave me any problem prior to the fillings. Should I go to the specialist or wait for the teeth to calm down? Please advise me! I would appreciate your opinions/suggestions. Thanks.

Let me guess. Instead of amalgam, you had those white resin fillings that leak like crazy, right?

Let it calm down. Or have the treating dentist apply a layer of penetrating resin sealant and see if that helps.

Thanks Dr. Henry! Yes they are white resin fillings. How long do teeth with white fillings usually take to calm down?

Sometimes they never calm down. As resin does not self-oxidize like metal, they are not self-sealing. My advice is to wait a couple of weeks. If not better, have penetrating resin applied. And if that does not work, it is root canal time. Such are the joys of esthetic dentistry.
