Crack on tooth after a root canal and a crown

Good day Doc!

I got a filling replaced three months ago on one of my premolars which made the tooth hurt terribly. I ended up having a root canal. After two weeks, I had the permanent crown on, which made the tooth very sore again. I cannot tap it. It hurt more when I eat or drink. The dentist did some X-rays but the results were fine. I've been searching over the net about this which made me think that the tooth might have a crack which is not seen on the X-rays. Any idea? How long for a root canal to fully heal?

Thank you very much for your answers!

Dear leevis!

An X-ray usually shows chronic alterations, not acute ones. Presumably, the root canal treatment did not have the desired results, which could be due to a variety of reasons; all the canals weren’t filled, not completely sanitized after treatment, canal not filled up until the root tip, or even a combination of all the above.

I would search for an endodontic specialist on here; find a great doctor who specialises in root canals and take his professional opinion into account.

Your problem does sound suspiciously like a root canal issue.

All the best!
Liebe Grüße JB

Hi Doc,

Thank you for your input. I have been told cracks cannot be visible on Xray most of the time. I will have this taken cared of asap.
