Collagen plug fell out after bone graft

User Level:
Patient

I had two lower molars extracted 2 days ago and prepped for implants with bone grafts and collagen plugs in each extraction site. About 30 hours after my procedure one of the collagen plugs fell out. Is this normal? The surgeon is on vacation and his assistant said it is nothing to worry about. A few granules of the grafting material has come out in my mouth. Should I go back to the surgeon to have it checked out? Thanks in advance for your answer.

We like collagen plugs to stay in for at least 2 days, but they do not always. If you lost all of the graft you would be hurting like the dickens. Best to have the treating surgeon check the site out.
