Can teeth grinding chip tooth?

Dear everyone,

I noticed that my back teeth are breaking and cracking. I do brush and floss regularly. But for the past few years, I have a habit of teeth grinding especially when I am stressed. Can this cause my molars to break? Please advise!

I would highly appreciate your answers!

Hello Peterpiper,

Welcome to the Checkdent community!:-)

There might be a decay starting in between your teeth. Teeth clenching or teeth grinding causes the edge of the tooth to chip. Use night guard to prevent this.

Yes, grinding and clenching can chip teeth, wear down tooth enamel and increase temperature sensitivity. The dentist can restore it with composite bonding.
