I had an abscessed tooth. The dentist said the infection was severe and the tooth has to go. He referred me to an oral surgery specialist. During the extraction of the tooth, the oral surgeon found out that I have a cyst that was growing in my bone. It had destroyed most of my bone and the roots of my teeth. He also told me that I have some other teeth, which need to be removed on my next appointment. He also added that he would give me a dental flipper. How long will I have to wear the dental flipper? I want to get implant but the dentist said, I need to get a bone graft done first. Anyone who have been through this procedure? How long is the healing process? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

A lot of it depends on the size of the cyst. typically a bone graft takes about 4-6 months to heal, than the implant is placed and it takes about the same amount of time to heal a few more weeks and the crown can be made. It can be a lengthy process, but worth it.
