Black Area on front tooth, from smoking or whitening?

Hello,
I recently noticed a dark area on my front tooth. I think it just showed up since i have been using the vivid white tooth paste but am not sure. I brush my teeth regularly but i smoke cigarettes and drink a TON of coffee. which is taking a toll on my teeth (hence the whitening). I have not been to the dentist lately and am worried its serious!!! i dont want my tooth to rot !! Am making an apt but in the mean time, please help. Any advice welcome.

Thank you!

Smoking or consuming hot coffee may cause several disease or dental problems, the block spot may be dental plaque, so its better to consult dentist.

That black area may either be the start of a tooth decay, or a nicotine stain (since you mentioned that you smoke). Best to have it checked by your dentist as soon as possible; a post I read on the This is Dentistry site mentioned that stains or discolourations can worsen into decay, if left untreated for a long time. Good luck!
