Antibiotic for gum infection

User Level:
Patient

Hi everyone,

I had an abscess in my gum and yesterday, it went so bad that my face was swollen to the eye. Since my regular dentist is on a vacation, I went to an emergency dentist. He gave me a massive dose of amoxicillin to be taken for seven days. It’s been 24 hours since I took the medicine and it doesn’t seem to be working yet, I am still very sore. What should I do? Should I go back to the dentist? Please advice. Thank you very much.

It would speed healing if the dentist could lance the infection and get pus draining. About half of the time this is possible.
