I have a cavity on one of my molars at the bottom right side. Since I am pregnant, the dentist had temporary filled the tooth. After a few days, I developed an abscess and the tooth hurt. The dentist put an antibacterial filling in the tooth and the pain went away. The dentist replaced the antibacterial filling with white composite. Since then, the tooth became painful to touch. I was wondering if the composite filling could be removed and put an antibacterial again. Would it last until I give birth and become ready for a root canal? Please help! Thank you in advance!

You need to have a root canal NOW. Why it wasn't done to start with is the mystery.

Hi Kim,
Thanks! I was on my first trimester of my pregnancy when my tooth problem started and since it's a delicate pregnancy, I put off the root canal. Is it safe to have a root canal while pregnant?

I do it all the time. The alternatives, an extraction or a life threatening infection, are much more traumatic and entail much more risk.

Thanks! When I asked my dentist whether it's safe to have a root canal or not with my condition, he did not give a clear answer but wanted me to sign a waiver instead. That made me doubt if it's safe to do it or not.

Everyone KNOWS that if there is a mutant child born, everyone in sight will be blamed and possibly hit with a lawsuit. Thus, the waiver. You can't have laughing gas during the procedure, and your pain meds are very limited after the procedure. As far as treatment is concerned, it is sure safer than the alternatives.
