Abscess

User Level:
Patient

Last year I developed an abscess next to my first molar on the upper left side. It cleared up by itself after a few days. Three days ago, I’ve got another abscess on the same spot. It slightly ached, but yesterday the pain was unbearable. My gums were very swollen. I had numbing sensation in my jaw and cheek on the left side. I can’t eat anything, can’t sleep well and have a slight temperature. My hands were shaking and felt very exhausted.

Can someone help me out with this please? Will the abscess go away by itself like the first one or do I need to see a dentist? Any advice to relieve the pain? Thank you so much.

Hello Betty. You did not have these symptoms when the first abscess formed right? You should visit a dentist and he/she will most likely give you antibiotics to help fight the infection. Dental abscess is very dangerous and may spread easily to your neck area. You should get x-ray on that molar to see what is going on.

No, the abscess will not go away by itself. You need to see a dentist or you may wind up in the hospital with a facial infection. DO NOT seek to treat the infection with only antibiotics. Treatment is the first course of action. After that, antibiotics may or may not be indicated.
