The Importance of Prosthodontics in Dentistry
The field of prosthodontics deals with dental prostheses.
If the ground work has been thoroughly carried out (i.e., if caries have been removed), necessary root canals have been completed, and the periodontium has been restored, then prosthodontics are addressed. Prosthodontics deals with the type and form of your dental prosthesis. We require teeth for chewing, for the formation of sounds, and for aesthetics.
The prosthodontist tries to implement all the requirements while considering the initial situation. In general, we distinguish between removable and fixed dental prostheses. If no remaining teeth are available, then a bone augmentation and/or an implantation must be performed prior to the execution of the prosthesis. You can find more information on these topics in the videos:
Since the preparatory work may sometimes take several months, the prosthodontist prepares a high-quality temporary prosthesis for the transitional period. There will be more about that in the video entitled "Temporary Dental Prosthesis".
