Plaque tablets can be used to check dental hygiene.

What is fun for children can be fun for adults too: colored tablets.
First you brush your teeth, then you chew special colored tablets (which you can get in pharmacies). Wherever there are plaque deposits, they turn a different color (for example blue). Whatever you can wipe away using your tongue is colored salive. Whatever is left is dental plaque, which was removed by cleaning. Here you need to do some extra work!

Get a small dental mirror to check how your teeth look from behind, brushing the front is not enough! This is a fun way to learn new brushing techniques and retain your new habits.

This is a way to avoid the typical course of tooth decay – at about fifty you get crowns, bridges, partial dentures or even total dentures. Here you can see x-rays of patients of various dentists, where you can see that these patients, and maybe you as well, usually have bad side teeth. Even to a non-expert it is obvious that the fillings, crowns, bridges (the light spots on the x-rays ) first appear on the sides. Why is this? - Well, teeth are usually just given a short cleaning, you have other things on your mind and toothpaste gives you a false sense of freshness – you are more likely to polish your window display – while the back gets short-changed. This has consequences: hidden plaque, especially between the teeth, eventually ruin the enamel - leading to cavities and inflammation - parodontitis. This is why we always start getting fillings on the side first, followed by poor dental work and insufficient information, meaning that by the time they reach 50 most people have either no more side teeth or their side teeth are in poor condition. The front teeth thus have a heavier load to bear and at the age of 60 it is time for a total denture – the typical course of dental hygiene.
