The Gingiva former (or gum former) helps the gums to re-form and heal after a successful implantation.
Here you can see a patient who has received a new front tooth for the upper jaw. An implant was put in 8 weeks previously to close a tooth gap in front, the teeth were cut and covered by a temporary denture during this time. The temporary denture and the gingiva former have already been removed for cleaning.
The clean gingiva former is now once again set into the mouth, where it is easy to see the well-formed gums – which is important to maintain the red and white color contrast. The temporary denture is then placed over the teeth.
