The cavity detector is a fluid which accurately and clearly colors cavity-infected tooth material.

The picture shows the chemical solution (in the blue container) along with a disposable applicator brush. The cavity detector assists the dentist in finding out how much of the tooth to remove. The aim is always to remove as little of the healthy tooth material as possible, but the cavity itself must always be completely removed, or else the problems will re-appear.

The patient's old fillings have been removed, and the cavity detector is now used to check whether there is still a cavity. The solution is applied to the tooth using the brush and left for a short time. Wherever colored areas remain after rinsing with water, there is still a cavity to be removed. Only then can a new filling be put in.
