Removal of the wisdom teeth refers to the surgical removal of a wisdom tooth-also called 8-third molar. Wisdom teeth usually emerge from between the age of 17 and 24 and are the last large grinding teeth at the back of your mouth. In medical terminology, wisdom teeth removal is called R. T. R., or “retained teeth removal.” Wisdom teeth can be extracted under local anesthesia or general anesthesia. Reading the comments already posted, I must emphasize the importance of having an expertly trained, dual-degree oral surgeon, and not a dentist, perform any surgery, like the removal of wisdom teeth.
Sedation is also a very nice adjunct for patients to actually have a pleasant and safe surgical experience.

I opted to be knocked out completely for my wisdom teeth extraction.
Had it done in the hospital, woke up and the ordeal was done :)
