What is a Dental Crown?
(45324 Views)
In dentistry, a crown refers to the upper part of a tooth protruding from the gingiva. On the other hand, the term dental crown stands for a type of dental restoration, which completely caps a tooth or implant. Crowns are often used to restore the health of a tooth that is threatened for example by a large cavity or damaged by accident. Crowns are anchored to the tooth using dental cement and can be made of a variety of materials. Metal is a common material choice, as well as crowns made of plastic, ceramic or porcelain. While undisputedly beneficial to dental health, the procedure can be relatively expensive. Please note that the price of crowns is related to the amount of work time invested and not to the material of the crown. Learn more about Dental Crowns in this video.
