Sodium Hypochlorite
(1392 Views)
In dentistry, sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) is used for the rinsing of the root canal during root canal therapy. Not only chemical disinfectants play an important role during the root canal cleaning, but also the mechanic renovation is important. Rinsing with sodium hypochlorite not only removes dentin chips, but kills bacteria as well. Infected dentine and root cement are treated with specific files; smooth and well-rinsed surfaces are created. Please note that a sole rinsing of the root canals with sodium hypochlorite is not sufficient to clean them properly. Often other solutions are used for cleaning out the root canals. It is important not to damage the bone around the root tip. There are many aggressive rinsing solutions that cause irritation and lead to further health issues. Tooth loss can be the result due to severe inflammatory reactions. Cleaning without irritating is the name of the game when rinsing out a root canal. Check out this video to see how it is done.
