Internal Tooth Bleaching
Internal bleaching is a procedure commonly performed on teeth that have lost their vitality through Endodontic treatment, like for instance root canal therapy. Teeth get darker when blood components and bacteria leak into the dental root, thus we speak of an internal staining on teeth. Contrary to external bleaching, internal bleaching is performed to brighten your teeth from the inside out. The objective of an internal bleaching lies in the removal of the tooth discoloration without sacrificing any hard tooth substance. A special bleaching gel is inserted into the interior of the tooth, neutralizing the discolorations. However, it’s important to treat the cause as well, e.g., to renew the root canal treatment, because without this renewal, the tooth would eventually darken again sometime after the internal bleaching.
