Amalgamate Discoloration
(26157 Views)
Amalgam discolorations are discolorations in the teeth which are formed as a result of amalgam residue which are deposited in the tooth socket. Amalgam discolorations are also known by the term amalgamate tattoo. Particles of amalgamate tend to stray from the filling site and settle down below the surface of the tissue. As Amalgam discolorations don’t cause any pain or discomfort to the patient, it isn’t generally removed. This is because, the universal rule followed by dentists in practise is to uphold as much of the tooth matter as possible. Another reason why they are not removed is because, once removed amalgam discolorations tend to increase the size of the denture. Amalgam discolorations may be a problem and removed if it is very easily visible and appears unsightly. In such cases, the filling is usually gently removed by using a cross blade which only separates the undesired discolored filling. Watch this video to know more about amalgam discoloration.
