I am 17 years old and have a problem with my wisdom tooth in the upper left side. It's coming in sideways. It became infected as well. My mom and dad can’t afford the surgery. Please help! What can I do for now to ease the pain until we have enough funds for the extraction? The pain is becoming unbearable. I am taking antibiotics and ibuprofen but the pain does not go away. I have been on soft diet for the past few days because I can’t chew well. Any suggestions? I would be thankful for any help.

Nothing will help except extraction. You cannot stay on narcotics for weeks at a time. Gosh, simple extractions of wisdom teeth are not that expensive. Usually well under $200

Hello. I am sorry about your situation. Do you have a regular dentist who knows your family and may perhaps perform the extraction and agree to be paid in installments. I would inquire the local hospital and ask how much they charge for a wisdom tooth extraction. If you are in US consider applying for Medicaid perhaps. I know in NY they cover dental procedures under Medicaid and your are a minor. Other than that there is really no other way to ease up you pain.

$200.00 is a considerable sum for many people even in the US today. As a students I am penniless Dr. Henry.

Maybe you have a skill that you can offer the dentist in trade. Cut his grass, update his practice website, paint his house, detail his car, etc. Society exists on the free exchange of labor.

wisdom teeth removal cost varies from city to city, there are dentists that offer a payment plan. I advise you to contact several of them and talk to them about payment options.

Mr Jojo,
Sometimes its obvious to extraction surgery. But there r some protective measures like you can massage that gum-flap over the infected tooth with your fingertip, you can reduce occlusion trauma by grinding the opposite tooth, also deep curattage by a trained dentist may help.

Great to know that your dentist agreed to be paid in installments! I have read on the This is Dentistry website how painful an impacted wisdom tooth can be - and how extraction can be the only solution to avoid even more pain and discomfort...
