Tooth with a temp crown hurts when I bite

Hi everyone!

Six months ago, part of my old metal filling fell out. The dentist removed the entire filling and replaced it with a white one. After a week, I went back to him because of a sudden sharp pain on the tooth whenever I chew on it. The dentist removed the new filling and distributed it equally on the tooth. The problem persisted so he decided to put a crown on it. I currently have the temporary crown and I still experience the same problem. The tooth still hurt when I bite or chew on it. Is it possible that there is a crack under the gumline? The dentist said I should give it some more days because the tooth certainly take some time for it to settle down from a recent treatment. I will be getting the permanent crown in two weeks. What do you guys think of this?

Give the tooth a few more days to recover from the treatment. Ask your dentist if he can cement the permanent crown with a temporary cement to observe how the tooth heals.

It could possibly mean that the root was fractured. I would not have the permanent crown put on until the pain issue is solved.
